Try Kuta beach.... There you will find a lot of beach boys who can teach you to surf.... There are a few surf schools around, but I don't remember any names.... You should manage to stand up after a few hours of practice.....

Hey, i agree the stretch from Kuta up to Seminyak is the best beach to learn on Bali. Most other spots on Bali are reefs and so pretty intense and unsuitable for beginners. This is a nice article about learning how to surf on Bali and the page also has a lot of links to surfschools etc. on Bali: http://www.surfcampseurope.com/articles ... -surf-bali

How about windsurfing? Can you do windsurfing somewhere over there?

I think you can windsurf in Nusa Dua and maybe on other spots around there. I saw the resort had a bit of gear. However it's probably more low-wind grovelling inside the reefbelt unless you wanna bring some big gear. Freestyle might be alright as well... Kuta might have a some wave potential, but i was on bali for 5 months in 2006 (without my gear) and the wind would have been enough for 5.3 and 75 liters maybe a couple of times... More wind in the wet season after all.
